The Story of 'Homebound'

The story revolves around Shoaib Ali and Chandan Kumar, two childhood friends from a small village in North India, who aspire to jobs as police officers that bring them the respect and dignity they have long lacked. The film explores their deep bond and how they navigate personal challenges as they pursue their dreams.
'Homebound' will release on September 26

Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with Marijke D'Souza and Melitta Toscan du Plantier as co-producers, Homebound promises to continue Ghaywan's exploration of human relationships and social landscapes in modern India. The film is scheduled to release in theaters worldwide on September 26, 2025. Following its theatrical release, the film will stream on Netflix.
Homebound at Cannes Film Festival
"Homebound" was selected in the Un Certain Regard section at the festival in May. After the film premiered at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, the audience stood and applauded for nearly nine minutes. This moment was emotional for the entire film team.
Homebound performed brilliantly at the Toronto Film Festival
Janhvi Kapoor , Ishaan Khattar, and Vishal Jethwa's film "Homebound" has also been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025. It was screened at the TIFF Gala Presentation. "Homebound" also received a standing ovation at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival. Additionally, the film was shortlisted for the TIFF People's Choice International Award and was declared second runner-up.
