Jaya Bachchan urges Parliament to show mercy on Bollywood, says ‘You are destroying this industry…’

Jaya Bachchan urges Parliament: Veteran actress and MP Jaya Bachchan is known for her outspoken style. Every day the actress is seen giving some statement or the other. On Tuesday, 11 February 2025, Samajwadi Party member Jaya Bachchan, while addressing the Rajya Sabha, questioned Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman about the Union Budget 2025 and claimed that the government is trying to "kill" Bollywood. Along with this, Jaya Bachchan urged the government to "have mercy" on the film industry.

In fact, Jaya Bachchan claimed that the film industry is being ignored by the government and argued that single screen theatres are closing down. Jaya Bachchan said, "You have completely ignored one industry and other governments are also doing the same. But today you have taken it to the next level. You have completely ignored the film and entertainment industry because you use them only for your own purpose. Today, leave aside GST, all single screens (theatres) are closing down. People are not going to movie halls because everything has become very expensive. Maybe you want to end this industry completely. This is the only industry that connects the whole world to India".

Continuing her speech, Jaya Bachchan urged the government to have mercy on the film industry. The veteran actress said, "I am speaking on behalf of my film industry and on behalf of the audio-visual industry, I am requesting this House to please spare them. Please have some mercy on them. You are trying to destroy this industry. Please don't do this. Today you have started targeting cinema as well". Jaya Bachchan also sought help from the Finance Minister and concluded by saying, "I request the Finance Minister to consider this and please bring something to help this industry survive."

Talking to the media after coming out of Parliament, Jaya Bachchan said, "Where is the water most polluted at this time? It is in Kumbh. Dead bodies have been thrown in the river, due to which the water has become polluted. The real issues are not being paid attention to".

Meanwhile, on the work front, Jaya Bachchan will soon be seen in Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling. The film also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vamika Gabbi in lead roles. Directed by Vikas Bahl, it is produced by Ramesh Taurani, Harman Baweja, Rohandeep Singh, Viraj Sawant, and Ramesh Pulpaka. The film will hit the theatres later this year.
