Kalpana Raghavendar Breaks Silence on Husband Dispute & Overdose Reason!

Telugu's popular playback singer Kalpana Raghavendra was admitted to the hospital due to overdose of medicines. There were reports that the singer had tried to commit suicide. Earlier, the singer's daughter had shared her mother's health update (Kalpana Raghavendar Health Update). Meanwhile, singer Kalpana Raghavendra has released a video to the press and denied the rumors of a rift with her husband or daughter.

Kalpana Raghavendra denies family feud

In fact Kalpana Raghavendra released two videos in Telugu and Tamil to the press, stating that she accidentally consumed pills due to work stress and not because of her personal life. She said, "I am making this video to clarify a rumour spread about me and my husband. I am 45 years old. At this age I am doing PhD and studying LLB with the encouragement of my husband. As far as my music is concerned, I am trying to update myself and do different kinds of concerts. Due to that stress, I am not able to sleep properly".

Kalpana Raghavendra fainted due to overdose

Singer Kalpana Raghavendra then confirmed that she took an overdose of pills prescribed for insomnia and fell unconscious. She credited her husband for doing everything possible to ensure that she was alive, saying, "If I am alive today, it is only because of my husband. He got the help of the police and the media at the right time. Please do not believe any news of my personal issues. My husband Prasad Prabhakar is the best thing that has happened to me, thank God. I am very lucky that he is in my life. And the second best thing is my daughter Daya Prasad". At the end of the video, she said that she is 'very happy' in her personal life and it has nothing to do with her accidentally taking an overdose, "I am living a very happy life. It is a small hurdle due to health issues, but I am looking forward to entertaining you again".

Kalpana Raghavendra's husband Prasad called their neighbours in Hyderabad when Kalpana did not pick up his calls. When he did not respond to the neighbours, he called the police to check on her. Police found Kalpana Raghavendra unconscious on Tuesday and rushed her to a hospital. While they suspected that Kalpana had attempted suicide, PTI reported that Kalpana told the police that she had not attempted suicide but had taken an overdose of sleeping pills as she was unable to sleep. Kalpana said she came to Hyderabad from Ernakulam on March 4. As she could not sleep, she first took eight sleeping pills and later consumed 10 more, which made her unconscious. They also had a "difference" with their daughter over going to Hyderabad for studies.

Kalpana Raghavendra comes from a family of musicians. Her father, T.S. Raghavendra, was a playback singer, composer and actor. Her mother, Sulochana, is also a singer and her sister, Shekinah Shaun, is an opera singer. She trained in Carnatic music under Madurai T. Srinivasan and holds a master's degree in computer applications.
