Shabana Azmi reacted on Kolkata rape and murder case

After the brutality with the trainee doctor in Kolkata RG Kar Medical College, now the eyes of the whole country are fixed on the investigation of this case. Everyone is demanding justice. Now Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi has strongly condemned the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata earlier this month.

Let us tell you that while talking to the media after an event in Pune, Shabana Azmi stressed on the urgent need to stop looking at women as objects and end the deep-rooted patriarchy. She said, "Such incidents are extremely dangerous. It is shameful to see that even after the formation of Justice Verma Committee in 2012 during the Nirbhaya case, such heinous acts have not decreased. We should not look at women as objects. We need to end patriarchy, which is deeply ingrained in our society".

Earlier, many celebrities including Kareena Kapoor, Randeep Hooda, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, John Abraham, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vivek Agnihotri and Neena Gupta expressed grief over this tragic incident. At the same time, celebrities from the Bengali film industry including Saheb Chatterjee, Soumyajit, Mimi Chakraborty, Subhashree Ganguly, Riddhi Sen, Arindam Sil and Madhumita Sarkar joined the protest in Kolkata.

Shabana Azmi's work front

Shabana Azmi was last seen in Ghoomar (2023), a sports drama film written and directed by R Balki. It stars Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher and Angad Bedi. The film was released in theatres last August. Shabana made her debut with the film Ankur (1974), which won her her first National Film Award for Best Actress. Over the years, the actress has starred in several films including Arth (1982), Masoom (1983), Mandi (1983) and Fire (1996).

President Draupadi Murmu expressed grief over increasing crimes

Earlier on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, President Draupadi Murmu expressed grief over the rising crimes against women after the heinous rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata. She wrote an open letter, Women's Safety: Enough is Enough, in which she called for introspection to uncover the roots of this evil. Expressing concern over the collective sense of forgetting the memories of the crime, the President said that now the time has come to not only face history "but also look into our souls and examine the pathology of crime against women". Let us tell you that on 9 August 2024, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, following which there were protests. People are demanding strict punishment for the accused and demanding protection for themselves.
