Along with this Vivek Oberoi recalled, "He was travelling for three weeks, so he said he would meet me after that. From his office I didn't go home, I went straight to a nearby slum, took a room there, paid the rent and started living in it. I stayed there for 3 weeks and bought one of those Dictaphones and I kept recording the conversations of the boys there. I started understanding the nuances, etc. I called a struggling photographer to help a struggling actor and take some pictures. I told him that if I succeeded, he would shoot the picture that would appear on my first cover. Finally I got a chance to meet Mr. Verma. I reached there dressed up in character, hoping he would audition me".

Vivek Oberoi further added, "I wore chappals, ill-fitting pants, torn banyan and walked in. At the door, I lit a beedi and opened the door. I walked in with swag, pulled up a chair and sat down. I stared at him and threw my photographs on his desk so he could see them. Then he got up and told me I was doing this film. I was very scared thinking he was testing me. I refused to give up the role. He then asked me to stop smoking in his office. It was my dream to work with Mr. Verma. Satya was one of my favourites. He was a great filmmaker, so it was a dream to be a part of the company."
