Naushad’s grand daughter Umarah Naushad Ali ties the knot

Late music composer Naushad’s granddaughter Umarah Naushad Ali married Dubai-based Daanish Khan recently. The couple tied the knot on December 25, which was also Naushad’s 104th birthday. Umarah and Daanish have been childhood sweethearts and have known each other all their lives. 

Talking about how he met Umarah, Daanish says, “I've known her since childhood, and I can still vividly recall her wearing those plastic glasses and cutely speaking. As a child, I used to playfully tease her quite a bit and she used to hate it.”

Daanish, who is based in Dubai, says that getting married in India has been wonderful, being Indians, our desire was for all our festivities to be surrounded by family friends, and well-wishers. Choosing Mumbai for our wedding was a wonderful decision, especially considering our deep connection to the city where we were born and raised. Starting an events company together, UNA Events, adds a unique touch to our journey.“Experiencing wedding festivities in India was truly wonderful. The overwhelming love and warmth extended during the celebration were amazing. In the last decade, weddings have evolved into vibrant festivals, witnessing a significant shift in trends. The emphasis on seamlessly blending tradition with innovative elements has become a hallmark, creating unforgettable celebrations. Now, family, friends, and well-wishers gather to shower blessings, creating an incredible atmosphere filled with love and affection .”It's a jubilant festival where everyone sings, dances, and collectively crafts cherished memories.

Meanwhile, a little about his bride. Umarah has worked in 3D animation and VFX projects as a freelancer for almost 10 years. She then switched her field and became a chef. Talking about the wedding festivities, she says, “Our marriage is a love-arrange marriage as we have known each other since we were infants. Daanish is and will always be my best friend. What makes him special is his ability to love selflessly. He is one of the most hardworking people I know, and he has a lot of patience, so he gets what he wants. We had six functions - court marriage at home, then wedding announcement party, haldi - mehndi, dholki, nikah, and reception.”

Meanwhile, Umarah feels lucky to be part of her grandfather’s legacy. “It feels unreal sometimes to be part of his legacy. I just feel extremely lucky and proud. He was extremely passionate about his work and he taught us to give our 100% in whatever we do and always be down to earth,” she says.
