‘Come September’ is a 1961 American super-hit romantic comedy film directed by Robert Mulligan and starring Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin
Multi-talented genius Bobby Darin composed the evergreen Come September theme as well as Multiplication that he sings in the film.
The Come September theme was evidently ‘lifted’ and smartly adapted in two Bollywood musical films.
The first is ‘Raja’ ( 1995) and the evergreen chartbuster duet-song sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik is Nazrein Mili Dil Dhadka’ picturized on the charismatic stunning actress Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Kapoor..
Out here the composers who apparently ‘lifted’ the tune are duo Nadeem Shravan. Movie ‘Raja was directed by Indra Kumar.
The second song is ‘Dole Dole Dil Dole’ (inspired from Come September theme) is sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and the song is picturised on ( hold-your-breath) ‘beautiful’ hero Aamir Khan dressed in female costume in the movie ‘Baazi’ (1995 ).
This tune was cleverly adapted by composer Anu Malik. The movie Baazi was directed by the iconic Ashutosh Gowariker ( of ‘Lagaan’ fame).
Interesting to note that both movies Raja and Baazi released during year 1995. Composer of ‘Come September' theme music Bobby Darin (born Walden Robert Cassotto ) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician, and actor.
He performed jazz, pop, rock and roll, folk, swing, and country music. Bobby started his career as a songwriter for Connie Francis. He recorded his first million-selling single, "Splish Splash", in 1958.
That was followed by "Dream Lover", "Mack the Knife", and "Beyond the Sea", which brought him worldwide fame. In 1962 he won a Golden Globe Award for his first film, Come September, co-starring his first wife, actress Sandra Dee.
Multi-talented composer Bobby died at the very young age of 37 on Dec 20, 1973, after a heart operation in Los Angeles (USA) But genius composer Bobby’s original theme music Come September will always remain evergreen and immortal.
This music for "Come September" was written by Bobby Darin and was first recorded by Billy Vaughn in 1961. It set the trend for every shaadi baraat in India till a decade ago. Rock Hudson's white jacket and dance moves were copied in most of yesteryear's movies.
Come September's BGM (Background Music) was also taken in Indian suspense thriller film Hamraaz which came into 1967, It was produced and directed by B. R. Chopra and written by Akhtar ul Iman.
The film stars Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Mumtaz, Vimi, Sarika, Madan Puri, Iftekhar, Balraj Sahni, Jeevan and Helen. This movie's music was given by Ravi and the lyrics were penned by Sahir Ludhianvi.
