Birthday is a day to think about your mistakes…Dharmendra

Some stars want to keep their memories alive. They love their past very much and they like to live the future with the same enthusiasm. The 88th birthday (8th December) of the screen's darling hero, hard-loving he-man Dharmendra is something special. Every birthday is a day of happiness for his fans. He likes to live this day with great enthusiasm.

Birthday Reflections: Living Life with Simplicity

"This day is one of the many reasons to be happy. But for me, this is a day - birthday - a day of retrospect." While saying this, he hummed some poetry which I cannot remember. Even for 'retrospect' he used some Urdu words. This conversation is part of a discussion on one of his birthdays a few years ago when he started working long hours and was not making any difference between small and big films. He had given time to a producer for an hour's shoot at Film City Studio. Coincidentally, that day was his birthday. Everyone on the set was congratulating him. Today I remember the conversations that took place in between his busy schedule. I still remember his words about living the complexity of life by simplifying it with a smile. Even today, those words are equally true which he follows. I heard the same philosophy of living from him on his birthday in later years. So the only thing that comes to mind is that this man has not changed. He has always said the same truth of life that he has lived. Even today he says the same thing that he has always said.

"There should be a celebration not for show but to remember your past. Remember to thank god, God, I thank you for the life you have given me. It is important to look back at your past. It's a birthday to remember where we have made mistakes." He further says- "We have seen every stage of our life. It is God's will, to see how long he keeps me free to live my life as per my wish. Whatever he has given me till now, I am satisfied with that. I would like to tell everyone to keep the thought of being satisfied within themselves. It has nothing to do with being young or old, it has nothing to do with celebration, it has everything to do with realization."

"Did you learn from your mistakes, do you remember some mistakes?"

"I have always learned, I have also made a lot of mistakes, but mistakes are not something to talk about." Dharmendra laughs. "Whenever I have made mistakes, I have realized them. Then I have not repeated them. We are human, and everyone makes mistakes, but it is important to realize them. I have told each of my producers that when I commit any mistake, please tell me gently. And, it has happened many times when a director dear to me has told me my mistake in my ear and I have immediately corrected it. I have never had an ego in my life."

"Any mistake you made on your birthday?"

“Many beautiful mistakes have been made… had I or anyone else been in my place, they too would not have told about their mistakes.” He smiles.
