The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival has officially issued a statement strongly condemning the recent false and malicious allegations leveled against its organisation and leadership. The Festival considers these claims to be baseless and believes these may have stemmed from a wider effort to damage its reputation.
DPIFF Team Faces Extortion Threat Ahead of Festival
As reported by PR team member Karan, before the prestigious festival scheduled for 20 February 2025 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, some individuals had attempted extortion by threatening to disrupt the whole event. But when their demands were not met, these individuals had made some false allegations with an intent to damage the reputation of the DPIFF Managing Director, Mr Anil Mishra, and CEO, Mr Abhishek Mishra.
These developments raised serious security concerns for the team and invited guests, forcing the organisers to postpone the festival. Later, the legal counsel took action to challenge the false claims, which were placed under judicial review. The process for formal approval and clean antecedents with the Bandra Police Station is underway for the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF), Mr Anil Mishra and Mr Abhishek Mishra.
In an official statement, Mr Abhishek Mishra, CEO of DPIFF, said: “Since its inception, the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival has stood as a proud torchbearer of India’s rich cinematic heritage, committed to celebrating artistic excellence. The recent challenges have only strengthened our resolve. We upheld the truth with dignity and are grateful to the Indian judicial system for reaffirming it. To every artist, filmmaker, and cinephile, thank you for your unwavering support. We now look forward to an even bigger and brighter celebration of Indian cinema and the artists who make Indian cinema.”
DPIFF urges the public, stakeholders, and members of the creative industry not to fall prey to rumours or fabricated stories. The festival is focused on its mission to honour cinematic talent and amplify India's creative voice on the global stage. The Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival is coming back soon. Jai Hind.
