Sanam Teri Kasam Re-release: The craze for the 2016 romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam is making a comeback after 9 years. Harshvardhan Rane, who won hearts for his portrayal of Inder in the film, recently spoke to the media about the film's re-release and the love it has been receiving. Since its re-release, the movie has been running houseful in theaters, and it’s been the talk of the town. The success of Sanam Teri Kasam can be credited not just to the director and writers but also to the talented cast. Harshvardhan Rane, who captivated audiences with his portrayal of Inder, shared his thoughts on the film’s resurgence.

What’s your take on the immense love you’re receiving from the audience after the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam?

"I believe this is for everyone—actors and people who work in offices and homes. If you’re not seeing results, no matter how many years pass, you have to keep fighting. You must get up every morning, go to work, come back and check the results. And the next day, you have to do it again. It won’t happen in a week, a month, or even in six months. Sometimes, like in the case of this film, it may take 9 years for something to click. You just have to keep doing your work and never stop fighting. After the re-release of this film, I’ve been getting calls from many actors and directors.

Re-releasing the film was a difficult decision since it didn’t do well when it first released. Fans demanded it, and now it's being re-released. What do you think about this?

Whenever you decide to do something new in life, it’s always a tough call. I remember when I ran away from home at 16, it was a difficult decision too. Similarly, when I went to Deepak Sir’s office and shouted for the film to be re-released, many people advised me against it, saying an actor shouldn’t do that. But I followed my intuition. And when you follow your gut, it’s usually the right choice, even if you don’t understand it at the moment.

Harshvardhan Rane on Sanam Teri Kasam release

Why do you think the film didn’t get the love it deserved when it released in 2016, and why is it receiving so much love now?

I don’t know. If I knew that, I could guarantee that 99.9% of films would be hits, and not just 100%. No one in Hollywood, Bollywood, or even the global cinema industry can say exactly why a film fails or succeeds. Some special people might have an explanation, but no one can truly know.

When people commented on Instagram, asking for the film to be re-released, how did you talk to Deepak Sir and convince him?

I spent years trying to convince him. We thought re-releasing the film would be easy, but when it takes 6-7 hours to create a 30-second reel, spending money on it, re-releasing the film is no small feat. Creating something worth watching is never easy. The film didn’t work the first time, and the producer is not at fault. After the film failed, we all stopped talking for 7-8 years, which was wrong. But when people started talking about it again, I said, 'If you support me, I’ll talk to Deepak Sir.' And finally, I convinced him to re-release the film.

Why Harshvardhan Rane Isn't In Touch With Sanam Teri Kasam Co-Star Mawra Hocane?

You’ve been visiting theaters, meeting fans, and they’re excited to meet you and take selfies. How does that feel?

Whenever I pass a temple, I bow my head in gratitude. It’s become a habit for me, not to ask for anything but to thank for what I already have. Similarly, when I meet fans at theaters now, I want to shake hands with as many people as possible because they’ve supported this film for 9 years. Earlier, I thought they were just expressing love online, but now, with them buying tickets, it feels more real.

With the film being re-released after 9 years, what flashback memories come to your mind?

I remember 9-10 years ago, when I went to the director’s office to ask for a chance in this film. I was almost begging for it. I was told that the casting had already been done. But I kept pleading for an audition. After much persuasion, they gave me a chance, and even then, I had to audition again. An hour later, they told me I had caused some losses to the producer because the hero’s clothes had already been made. But later, I found out I was doing the film. Shortly after that, I saw the previously cast actor in another room, and we later worked together in the film Dange.

As you mentioned, you went and asked for work, and now you’re a well-known face. How do you look at your journey?

I’ve done many things in my journey. When you run away from home, you don’t land on a film set immediately. First, you feel hungry, and then you realize you need to earn money. I started working at an STD booth, earning 10 rupees a day. Later, I worked at a cyber cafe where I maintained the register for 15 rupees a day. I even worked as a delivery boy, carrying DJ Nitesh and Rikku's bags. I’ve done a lot of different jobs. I believe in a rule—when you complete 10,000 hours, your desires are fulfilled. My 10,000 hours have been completed twice. The first time, I got a film. Then, I spent another 10,000 hours thinking about that film.

What does success mean to you?

I believe the ability to wait is success. If you can wait, you’re successful, because success doesn’t come overnight. You do something today, and you won’t see the results tomorrow. You have to wait for it.

Can you tell us something about the casting of the film, especially the selection of the lead actress? We heard it took 25 auditions before Mawra Hocane was chosen.
It wasn’t just 25, but over 200 actresses were auditioned before Mawra Hocane was selected. That’s a big deal because Mawra gave her all for this film.

Sanam Teri Kasam 2 Movie Release
People are saying that if Mawra Hocane hadn’t been a part of the film, it wouldn’t have been as successful. What do you think about that?

They are absolutely right, but I believe no one person is solely responsible for this film’s success. Everyone contributed—whether it’s the actors, producers, director, music composer Himesh Reshammiya, or the audience. It’s all teamwork, like a family preparing a meal—mom cooks, dad brings the vegetables, and grandma serves the food. It’s a complete team effort.

What would you say to the audience of Sanam Teri Kasam and Sanam Teri Kasam 2?

I dedicate the success of this film to the actors who have been working for a long time, some of whom I never got a chance to meet. I also dedicate it to those who are no longer with us. As for Sanam Teri Kasam 2, I would say that for the first part, I shouted for its release. For the second part, I could sit without food for 11 days, living on water alone.

Harshvardhan Rane has been seen in popular Hindi films like Haseen Dillruba, Tara vs Bilal, Savi, and Paltan. He has also appeared in several Telugu films.

Interestingly, Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao share a close connection with Mayapuri Magazine, having visited the magazine’s Delhi office multiple times.

In an exclusive conversation with Mayapuri, Vinay Ji revealed that while he was writing the script for Sanam Teri Kasam, he was also working on another script, which he decided to stop after the film’s release. But now, with the overwhelming love from the audience for the re-release, Vinay Ji has announced that Sanam Teri Kasam 2 will release on 14th February 2025.

After its re-release, Sanam Teri Kasam earned a net collection of 22 crores in just four days. On its fifth day, the collection was around 2.5 to 2.75 crores, showing that the demand for the film is still very much alive among audiences.

In comparison, two other films released on Friday, 7th February — Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s Loveyapa and Himesh Reshammiya action-comedy Badass Ravikumar — couldn’t match Sanam Teri Kasam's box office collection. While Loveyapa earned 5.6 crores, Badass Ravikumar only managed to gather 7.25 crores so far.
