Responding to this question, he said, "I started getting a lot of different kinds of films that weren't coming before. In the same genre, you wonder, 'What should I do now?' You don't want to always be in the same genre. You don't want to do the same kind of work. But the kinds of scripts I'm reading now are a little different than before. So, yes. The success of Homebound has given me a lot. It has given me a very good place. It has given me success in my career. It has given me a name. It has given me good offers. And Homebound will always be a memorable film in my life."

"I don't regret any scene" - Vishal Jethwa

Vishal Jethwa was asked if there were any scenes of him in the film that didn't make it to the final cut, and if he regrets it. He said, "I don't regret any scene. A lot of what we shot got cut because a film has to have a fixed time. So, I don't regret it. But there were some scenes with Janhvi that were very beautiful. There was a scene with my mother. It was a very emotional scene. That didn't come in. And there were many other montages of mine with Ishaan which didn't make it to the final cut. I don't regret it because, after all, we are serving the film."

Homebound Plot

Homebound tells the story of two friends, Chandan Kumar (Vishal Jethwa) and Mohammad Shoaib Ali (Ishaan Khatter), who grew up in the village of Mapur, surrounded by caste and religious inequality. Their dream is to join the police force to gain respect and escape social scorn. Upon arriving at the railway station for an exam, they meet Sudha Bharti (Janhvi Kapoor). Chandan succeeds, while Shoaib fails, straining their friendship. However, the results are soon withheld. During this time, Chandan and Sudha's relationship deepens. Forced to work at a mill in Surat, Chandan and Shoaib are forced to leave their homes and face struggles. The impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown forces them away from home and into conflict.

Homebound dominated the Cannes and Toronto International Film Festivals

"Homebound" was selected in the Un Certain Regard section at the festival held in May. After the film was screened at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, the audience gave it a standing ovation for nearly nine minutes. Ishaan Khatter attended the Toronto International Film Festival (homebound movie rating). Before the film's release, "Homebound" won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. It also placed second in the People's Choice Awards at TIFF 2025.
